Web Version
SciFinder Scholar is now available on the Web for current students, faculty, and staff at all UC campuses. One time registration is required for new users, then login and search. Web version includes alerts referred to as "Keep Me Posted".
Web Version Software/Network Requirements
The only software items required are a web browser and industry-standard Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6.2 or higher for the structure drawing editor. CAS has provided a downloadable JRE plug-in
http://www.cas.org/misc/downloads/jreplugin.html. The Web Version uses standard web network protocols that should not require changes to network firewalls.
Web or client? View a chart comparing the Web and Client versions or view a demo of the SciFinder Web Version http://www.cas.org/products/scifindr/sfweb/sfwebflash.html.
Client Version
CAS will continue to support the client version available to UC campuses since December, 1999.
Download the client? Please read carefully the Chemical Abstracts User Agreement for SciFinder Scholar, required before downloading client software. Remote access to SciFinder Scholar when using client software is available only from campus VPN servers.
Remote access to SciFinder Scholar Web Version is available via campus proxy and VPN servers. Remote access to SciFinder Scholar when using downloaded client software is available only from campuses with VPN servers, campus proxy servers do not support the current SFS protocols. Questions regarding access to SciFinder Scholar should be directed to UC campus contacts (http://software.chem.ucla.edu/scifind/uccontacts.html).
UC users have access to 30 ports, simultaneously, on a 24-hour basis from valid campus IP addresses. Users should logout as soon as searches are completed.
